I love fall: the cooler temps, the shift in the air, and the flavors that shine during this time of year. Feeling inspired by the season and my favorite movie of the year, Sinners, I created three cocktails that capture both the moody energy of fall and the spirit of the film’s unforgettable characters and vibes.

The Smoke

For the Smoke inspired cocktail, I wanted something that embodied his gravitas, his quiet, deep thinking, pragmatic energy. Smoke is the twin who thinks before he speaks, so I wanted a drink that felt grounded, yet subtle.

The result, a smokey, earthly, figgy Old Fashioned prefect for sipping while you reflect, strategize, or simply enjoy the moment.

Smoke

My Sinners inspired Old Fashioned to put you in a Smoke state of mind

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Bourbon
  • 1/4 oz Fig simple syrup
  • Bitters (I used Cardamon , but use what you have)

Instructions

  • Add Bourbon, fig simple syrup, and a few dashes of bitters to cocktail shaker
  • Add ice to shaker and give cocktail a good stir, set aside for now
  • Now it's time to assemble your aromatics for smoking. I use fresh sage, fresh rosemary, pieces of cinnamon stick, and some wood chipsto smoke my glass
  • Let the smoke fill the glass for about 10-20 secs. The longer you let it smoke, the stronger the aroma.
  • Add cocktail to glass, garnish as you which, and enjoy. I nice smoky spring of rosemary or cinnamon stick makes a nice visual

Notes

A cocktail smoker comes in handy for this one, but it's not necessary. You can just burn your aromatics on a board and invert your glass over it to capture all the smoky goodness.

The Stack Old Fashioned

Stack is the more playful, easygoing, of the twins, but don’t mistake his charm for softness. He has an edge, and I wanted a cocktail that mirrored his layers, his contrasting parts. Visually and flavor wise, this drink reflects this dual nature and yes, it stacks perfectly.

Stack

My Sinners inspired Rum Sour cocktail designed to show off Stack's layers

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Rum
  • 1 oz Lime juice
  • 1 oz Peach puree
  • 1/4 oz Cinnamon simple syrup
  • 1 pinch Powered ginger (ginger can be overwhelming, so use according to your taste perference.)
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/2 oz Red wine

Instructions

  • Combine first 5 ingredients to a cocktail shaker without ice. Stir to combine.
  • Add in egg white and give it a vigorous shake for 10-15 secs. (this is known the dry shake)
  • Add in ice and give it another vigorous shake for 10-15 secs. (this is known as the wet shake)
  • Pour cocktail into serving glass. With or without the ice is up to you.
  • Using the back of a barspoon, float red wine on top.

Notes

In order to get the best foam when using an egg white, I've found using the dry/wet shake method works the best for me. And to make allowances for my RA, I use an electric frother for maximum agitation purposes. Plus, it ensures I don't lose control of the cocktail shaker and send it flying across the room.... Don't ask me how I know this. 🙂

Juke Joint Punch

For this one, I wanted to channel joy and grit of a true juke joint. The kind of place where good music, laughter, and stories blend with the clink of a glass. This punch is vibrant, juicy, gritty, and just a little untamed- like any good gathering should be. It celebrates community and good vibes in every pour.

Juke Joint Punch

This Sinners inspired batch cocktail is smooth, moody, and full of vibes. This punch is just right fall vibes or whenever you want to stir up a good time.

Liquids

  • 1 cup Bourbon
  • 1 cup Dark Rum
  • 1.5 cups Pineapple juice
  • 1.5 cups Orange juice
  • 1.5 cups Peach Tea
  • ¼ cup Lime juice
  • 1/4 oz Fig simple syrup (**this is an extra touch, feel free to leave it out)
  • 1 oz Topper of juice- sparkling or red wine

Dry

  • ¼ cup Brown sugar
  • ¼ cup Hibiscus leaves (more or less is up to you)
  • 5-8 Dried Figs
  • ¼ TBSP Dried Cherries
  • 1 TBSP Ginger (more or less depending on your palate)
  • 2 Cinnamon Sticks

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients to your serving container of choice
  • Let sit to combine at least 2 hrs, I prefer overnight
  • After settling time, give a taste, make any adjustments needed.
  • Fill up glass of choice- a mason jar is perfect for that juke joint vibe
  • Top off with your choice of sparkling--or hear me out-- a splash of red wine.

Notes

Trust me on this, go with the red wine. It tastes so good, plus you really can't beat the visual.

These three drinks can be enjoyed on their own, their interwoven flavors pair beautifully together. Each carries a bit of story: Smoke’s quiet confidence, Stack’s playful edge, and the Juke Joint’s wild joy. Whether it’s Halloween or a random fall evening, they invite you to linger in the moment, embrace the mood, and taste the vibe.
