I remember being so intimidated when I decided I wanted to get into wine. Everything I knew came from TV or movies where wine snobs swirled glasses and waxed poetic about vintages, tannins, and oaky finishes. I was afraid I’d be laughed at. 😂

Thankfully, a close friend took me under her wing and became my personal teacher. She gave me the freedom to explore wine on my own terms. Together, we turned tastings into something fun and approachable, often laughing at how differently we reacted to the same wine. That freedom helped me create my own system for choosing, enjoying, and rating wines.

Now, I’m so excited to launch Pours and Notes, my new tasting segment where I’ll uncork, sip, and share my thoughts with you. My goal is to provide a safe space for those curious about wines or spirits without feeling overwhelmed by all the pomp and circumstance. I’ll be using a simple Five-Glass rating system, so you’ll always know exactly where I land with each pour. For me, this approach makes it easier for me to enjoy the experience without getting caught up in over-analyzing  every detail; something my analytical appreciates.

Wine Overview:

Name: Les Plasses
Winery: Domaine de la Madone
Region: France • Beaujolais • Le Perreon
Vintage:2020
Grape Variety: Chardonnay

First Pour Impressions:

The bottle opened smoothly with no problems; some corks are tricky with my RA. The wine is a nice, lemony yellow color with a heavenly, fruit forward nose conveying hints of honeyed peach and white grape.

Tasting Notes:

Medium mouthfeel with flavors of white grape and peach, lifted by a subtle orangey-lemon note in the background. I found it nice and balanced.

Final Sip & Rating:

This wine is summer in a glass. I love the vibrant nose paired with the honeyed fruit taste. And the fact that it isn’t overly sweet is chef’s kiss. This is a perfect choice for an outdoor concert or picnic. It would pair well with grilled chicken or other lighter dishes.

Rating5 Glasses– Always welcome on my patio any time.
