Seattle has always been one of my favorite places to wander. It’s been a few years since my last visit , so I couldn’t think of a better city to explore with good friends and ring in the new year.
One of the things I love about Seattle is that it’s a city you can wander around and let it surprise you. Each neighborhood has its own personality loaded with great food, bars, & art around every corner. Here are my top 3 highlights from this special New Years Celebration trip:
Pike Place Market

Pike Place Market is a must when you’re in Seattle. It’s a huge farmer’s market located along the Elliot Bay in downtown Seattle. This open air market is full of fresh produce, seafood, baked goods, and quirky artisan stands.
You’ll stumble across things you didn’t know you needed, until then end up in your bag. I picked up some lotions, salves, and a box set of Scrappy’s Bitters that I’ve been eyeing for a while, from a lavender stall.
One of my biggest regrets was not planning dinner ahead of time so I could have taken back all the fresh groceries needed for a great, home cooked meal. But I know now for next time.
After you’ve walked around and sampled to your heart’s content, there are several restaurants and bars offering great views of the bay. Order a pint or a cocktail and enjoy the view. Oh, and as far as I’m concerned, it’s not a completed trip to the market without a visit to Rachel’s Ginger Beer. Just trust me on this one. I had the hot toddy made with blood orange ginger beer. It was so good, I had two.
Le Faux at Julia’s on Broadway

We were sitting around Saturday morning and my friend asked “Hey, you wanna grab brunch at a drag show?”
Exactly one guess as to what my answer was….
We got our tickets to Le Faux’s Queen of the Brunch drag show and settled in for about 2 hours of entertainment. IT WAS AWESOME!! The food was delicious, the drinks were superb, the service was fantastic, and the show was fabulous. 10 out of 10 recommend.
Side note: I ordered a Bloody Mary, and just let me tell you, this was THE Bloody Mary of ALL Bloody Marys! This thing came fully loaded with two tasty & well cooked chicken wings, smoked bacon, an olive, a celery stalk, a pepper, AND a pickle! I’m very picky about my Bloody Marys, and this one looked too good to not try. So I did….I did not regret it.
New Year’s Eve at Museum of Pop Culture (MoPop)

I rang in New Year’s Eve in style at the Museum of Pop Culture. This building is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. It was designed by Frank Gehry. Yes, the same Frank Gehry who designed the Dancing House in Prague (also known as Fred & Ginger). While the building itself is super cool and different, inside is where the magic really is.
At the time, the Fantasy Exhibit had props from Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, The Wizard of Oz, and The Princess Bride. Geek Heaven.
The main exhibit, “Marvel Universe of Super Heroes” was truly epic. It covered Marvel’s 80 year history with props, costumes, & just about anything Marvel related. I was so caught up that I had to be reminded more than once that we were actually there for a party.
And what a party! Great music, delicious food , and the high energy crowd created the perfect vibe.
Honorable Mention: Taylor Shellfish Farms
Even though I said I’d cover 3 trip highlights, this spot deserves a shoutout. Late one night we wondered into Taylor Shellfish Farms and had one of the best seafood meals I’ve had since the Dominican Republic.
The oysters were so fresh and so good. And the Dungeness Crab smothered in this delicious crab butter sauce was one of the best things I’ve ever had in my life. It was good enough to start arguments, but don’t get carried away and actually slap your mom. 😊
This trip reminded me Seattle will always have a special place in my traveler’s heart. Every visit feels new, no matter how many times I return.
